For keen horse riders and eventers, competing often takes them on the road and can mean travelling many miles. Taking your prized steed on such journeys can feel like a big risk and you’ll want to ensure that your horse is kept comfortable and safe whilst being transported. Making sure that you have a good horse trailer could make the difference between your horse travelling in luxury or having a nightmare journey! At The Insurance Emporium, it’s important to us that your four-legged friend is comfortable on the road and there is such a huge variety of options available, that’s why we put together this guide to five of the top horse trailers!
Cheval Trailers Touring One
If you’re looking for a single horse trailer, the Touring One from Cheval Liberte could be the ideal choice. Made with adonised aluminium side walls and floor, it’s designed to stand the test of time! It has front and rear unloading ramps and a large door for the groom, meaning getting in and out could be a doddle for you and your horse. The trailer also features two sliding windows to give your horse plenty of fresh air. It’s a small trailer but could be just what you need to get your steed from A to B!
Bateson Deauville
The Bateson Deauville is another trailer that has a front unload but offers space for two horses, including a hinged division in the centre. The trailer has an internal saddle rack and cover that could come in handy for transporting your tack. The floor is made from rot proof plastic and galvanised steel, with aluminium an optional extra. One feature that might make it desirable is the large front window and coupling mirror, giving a lovely view for your four legged friend as well as helping you keep an eye on them!
Ifor Williams HB510XL
Ifor Williams have been supplying horse trailers for many years and their HB510XL model could be a good choice for those carrying more than one horse. The trailer fits two horses or four ponies and, with various partition options can make for a potentially comfortable ride for your steed. There are plenty of sliding windows and roof vents, giving your horse light and air, as well as a thick rubber matting on the aluminium floor, designed to help reduce fatigue on long journeys.
Equi-Trek Trail-Treka M/L
The fibreglass Trail-Treka models from Equi-Trek can be configured to your specification with the L model providing a slightly larger alternative to the M model. The trailer comes with a strong aluminium floor and a slip-resistant rubber ramp. There are also three opening windows and a dome roof vent to help keep your horse comfortable. The light and spacious interior, coupled with independent suspension could mean that this trailer is a great option for transporting your horse! Those bumps in the road might not be a problem with this trailer!
Fautras JMS
French company Vans Fautras are a well-established name in the horse trailer world. Their JMS trailer has space for a single horse and features independent suspension, designed for the smoothest possible ride. It works with a rear load and front unload system and, due to it being relatively low to the ground, does not require a ramp. There are all sorts of extras available as options such as a large tack locker, sliding window and a trailer cam. You could seriously upgrade your equine transport with this one!
Picking the right horse trailer for you and your horse can take some time but become a vital piece of kit for transporting you and your horse. If you’re thinking of getting yourself a new horse trailer then you might also want to think about getting some Horse Trailer Insurance, bear in mind that we might not always cover the trailers named above so it’s worth checking with us first!
