There’s nothing quite like seeing your favourite musicians play live! However, one thing that might make it even more magical is being in the perfect location! At The Insurance Emporium, we want everyone to be able to crank up the volume on their passions. So don’t miss a beat; take a look at our list of 7 amazing music venues to visit around the world!
1. Madison Square Garden, New York
We’re starting with a big one! Needing no introduction, Madison Square Garden has been one of the most iconic venues since opening its doors in 1879. Its reputation meant that it came second in the world, behind the O2 Arena, for ticket sales in 2017! As well as having hosted concerts from the likes of Bob Dylan, Madonna and Stevie Wonder, it’s also the home of the New York Knicks and Rangers. It’s even been visited by two former Popes!
2. Teatro Antico di Taormina, Sicily
Originally constructed by the ancient Greeks and later renovated by the Romans, the Teatro Antico di Taormina might have one of the best views of any music venue! The amphitheatre’s stunning backdrop looks out on to the Ionian coast and Mount Etna. Since the 1950s, it’s hosted all kinds of entertainment, including opera, theatre, award ceremonies and, of course, concerts. It’s a popular venue for many big names, having played host to Elton John, Sting and Patti Smith to name a few!
3. The Caverns, Tennessee
Fancy a bit of underground music? The Caverns in Tennessee is truly subterranean, being located in a cave at the base of Monteagle Mountain! It’s the new home of Bluegrass Underground, an award winning televised concert series, and has a full programme of country and bluegrass performers booked in for the coming year! With a capacity of 750 – 1,000 people, it’s large enough to feel like a big deal, yet intimate enough that you can appreciate the natural surroundings.
4. Red Rocks, Colorado
Red Rocks is another outdoor venue that uses mother-nature for inspiration! Formed from two, 300-foot monoliths, it’s the only acoustically perfect, naturally-occurring amphitheatre in the world! Since beginning life as a concert venue in 1947, Red Rocks has hosted many acts, some of the most notable being The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Depeche Mode. Its unique look has also made it popular for live recordings, as well as film and TV!
5. Paradiso, Amsterdam
Paradiso is a former church right in the centre of Amsterdam. The venue has undergone quite few changes since it first opened its doors in 1968 under the name “Cosmic Relaxation Centre Paradiso”! Today, it brings to the heart of Amsterdam an eclectic mix of events, including scientific conferences, fashion shows and book readings. However, Paradiso still has a lot of time for music! Whether its big name acts, indie bands or DJ sets, they have it covered!
6. Sydney Opera House, Australia
Possibly the most recognisable music venue in the world, the Sydney Opera House might well be worth a visit! Aside from its renowned architecture, their programming schedule is huge. With over 40 events every week, there could be something to enjoy for even the fussiest music lovers! One fun fact is that since the 1980s, there has been a net covering the orchestra pit in the Opera Theatre, after a chicken walked off stage during a performance of Boris Godunov and landed on a cellist!
7. Dalhalla, Sweden
Another venue that makes good use of its natural surroundings is Dalhalla, in Sweden. An abandoned quarry, its peculiar rock formation was created when a meteorite landed on the site 360 million years ago! Having been described as one of the most beautiful outdoor venues in the world, Dalhalla now hosts a wide ranging programme of different musical styles. With its unique acoustics, which perform best with unamplified sound, the real star of the show here has to be opera!
Whatever your musical taste, we hope our list of fascinating venues has given you some inspiration! If you’re planning to jet off to somewhere exotic, the main thing is making sure you have the most magical adventure possible!
