One of the best ways to spend time with your dog is to get out on long walks together! For such a small island, the UK has a vast array of dog walks to choose from, so much so, that it can be hard to know where to start! So let us at The Insurance Emporium, give you a helping hand with our guide to 5 of the UK’s best dog walks!
Green Chain Walk, Crystal Palace, London
If you’re one of the many dog owners living in England’s capital, you don’t have to go far to find some great walks for you and your pooch! The Green Chain Walk is split into eleven sections, with our pick being the last – Crystal Palace to Nunhead. This takes you through the magnificent Sydenham Hill Wood and Dulwich Park, and the Horniman Museum and Dulwich Art Gallery are en route!
Rhossili Beach, Gower
Consistently named as one of the best beaches in Europe, Rhossili Beach in Wales is an easy four mile walk along golden sands, backed by dunes. Be sure to check the tide times before setting off, so you’ll know when the beach will be at its best. Rhossili is dog-friendly all year round, and you might want to take a ball to make the most of its vast open space!
Ashridge Estate, Hertfordshire
Well behaved dogs are allowed to walk off-lead in Hertfordshire’s beautiful Ashridge Estate! However, if you spot deer or livestock it might be a good idea to put them back on-lead again until safe. The walk will take you through ancient forests and wild meadows that are rich with wildlife. There are also Iron Age farms, Roman settlements and monuments to take in dotted about the estate!
Newhailes, Musselburgh
Near Edinburgh, the Newhailes estate could be a great location for your next dog walk! Dogs are allowed off-lead, with restrictions closer to the house, café and children’s play area. Over the rest of the estate, however, they can be free to explore acres of woodland and grassland! Keep your eyes peeled for the shell grotto and a 17th century tea house, both to be found within the grounds!
Barmston Beach, Yorkshire
Yorkshire’s coastline is a haven for dog walkers, with miles to explore! Barmston Beach could be a great place to start a walk, providing a coastal beach walk all the way up to Bridlington. What’s more, the entire route permits dogs to be off-lead, and it can be relatively quiet compared with other dog walking sites. If the weather’s warm enough, you could even join your pup for a dip in the sea!
