Getting married is meant to be one of the happiest days of your life. However, there’s a lot of details to plan and sometimes, unexpectantly it doesn’t go as planned. Here, we caught up with mother of the bride, Nicola, to talk about her experience.
As with many mothers of the bride, Nicola has been extremely hands on with helping her daughter plan her wedding.
With her daughter and soon-to-be son in law busy working parents, Nicola decided to do her due diligence and reviewed several wedding sites to understand the ins and outs of wedding planning. It was on one of these sites that Nicola saw the recommendation to take out wedding insurance, something she’d not even considered before.
Nicola started to look at wedding insurance providers in the UK and discovered there weren’t many to choose from. Upon discovering The Insurance Emporium, she liked the way the different levels of cover were set out in the tables, it meant it was easy to understand the cover she would require as well as all of the additional information offered.
When Things Go Wrong
While Nicola took out the wedding insurance as a safety net, she had no idea how valuable that would be until 3 months before her daughter’s wedding was due to take place.
Late February Nicola’s daughter received a strange email from her wedding venue co-ordinator, which led her daughter to call the venue, where they found out that the venue had, sadly, gone into administration – the exact same day the wedding invitations had been received by their guests.
With a deposit already paid to the venue and only two days since having their food tasting session, it was a huge shock to the family.
Nicola called The Insurance Emporium to speak with a claims handler to understand what the next steps would be in order to progress her claim. Having made the call and feeling very stressed she was immediately put at ease that she could speak to someone, rather than having to liaise with the business over email. She was also grateful that she wasn’t left on hold – again, something that could have made all the difference.
With only 3 months to go before the wedding was due to take place the family had to think fast about what was best to do – delay the wedding until a later date or rearrange for the same date.
As many brides and grooms to be would know, with dresses and suits already ordered – a lot can happen in a year, circumstances can change, meaning delaying by a significate amount of time didn’t seem to be the best option.
With the rearrangement option on their wedding insurance policy, the family quickly scrambled together to find a suitable wedding venue that gave them a like-for-like service. Once they had a suitable option, they leapt into action to supply all their necessary paperwork to The Insurance Emporium. To her delight, Nicola was given a decision in 3 business days, something she says was phenomenal as she really needed a quick answer for her daughter to be able to commit to the new venue.
Nicola and her family were then able to book the wedding at a venue with a similar distance for guests to travel to and from as their original venue. The date had to be brought forward by two days, meaning two suppliers were unable to commit to the new date, however they have been fortunate enough to find replacement suppliers.
Nicola’s Wedding Insurance Experience
“I am just so glad I took the advice I had read online to take out wedding insurance, it’s not something I would have thought to do, or truth be told, knew about. I saw it and thought that it would be a good idea.
There’s plenty of things that could go wrong in the run up to a wedding and even on the big day itself but having the venue cancelled is hugely detrimental as it impacts everything. I’m glad we had our insurance policy which meant the wedding could be rearranged.
I cannot stress enough how much of a difference it made to be able to speak to someone at the other end of the telephone at The Insurance Emporium, and not having to be kept on hold, or go through a lengthy automated system, which happens all too often these days.
I would encourage anyone getting married to take out wedding insurance, from experience it’s been such a saviour for us.”
