Here at The Insurance Emporium (TIE), we love celebrating awareness days as we know they help support some truly fantastic causes. From World Mental Health Awareness Week to National Donut Week, we’ve always got our finger on the pulse, especially if the cause directly aligns with our business.
And that’s why, when we heard the annual Bike Week was celebrating its 100th anniversary, we knew we needed to do something extra special to celebrate this milestone.
So, for Bike Week 100 we decided to challenge our staff, in the office and those working remotely, to join us as we pledged to cycle 100 miles while raising awareness and money for a regional community organisation, York Bike Belles CIC.
In the office, we had two teams taking on the challenge, using the office gym bikes:
- The ‘Pedal Power Posse’
- The ‘Wheel Warriors’
While working remotely, we assembled the ‘Digital Dynamos’ who would cycle throughout the week.
With our original target of cycling 100 miles smashed within the first two days, by the end of the week, our fantastic team had cycled a total of 405.11 miles!
To put this into perspective, that’s the equivalent of:
- 202.5 laps of York Racecourse (2 miles in circumference)
- 147 laps of York’s City Walls which stretch 2.75 miles
- Travelling from Edinburgh to London (405.6 miles)
- Competing in Ireland’s ‘Wild Mayo Ultra Cycle’ event (650km)
CEO of The Insurance Emporium, Francis Martin commented: “We are thrilled to have successfully completed our bikeathon challenge, cycling over our 100 mile target and raising funds for a worthy cause. Not only did this event promote health and wellness among our employees, but it also showcased our commitment to making a positive impact in the local community. I’m incredibly proud of our team for their dedication, perseverance, and generosity in supporting this important initiative.”
Sheridan Piggott, Programme Manager at York Bike Belles CIC said: “We want to sincerely thank The Insurance Emporium for choosing York Bike Belles CIC for their cause as part of their cycling challenge to celebrate the annual Bike Week. A huge congrats to them on cycling 405.11 miles as a team!
We are currently looking to raise funds for a new wheelchair transporter bike. This will mean all residents in York Care Homes can enjoy getting outdoors and experience the ‘wind in your hair’ wellbeing you only get from a good bike ride.”
We’re so proud of everyone who joined us for this challenge, while raising money for a fantastic local charity.
