Mr Benn has been bringing his magical adventures to his home city of London. He travelled to Waterloo Station with the Shopkeeper and a few of his friends from The Insurance Emporium as part of our experiential tour. Here’s what the character, who is currently celebrating his 50th anniversary, got up to.
Magic in London
Viewers of the original series will remember how Mr Benn would visit the Shopkeeper’s fancy dress shop, where he would try on a costume before stepping through a mystery door to a magical new world. From September 12th to 14th, the bowler hat-wearing gentleman invited people within London’s Waterloo Station to get a taste of his adventures themselves. We joined with him to give people the chance to win prizes, get a selfie with Gus the Gorilla and enter our competition to win a gorilla-tracking adventure in Uganda.
Join the Adventure
There were plenty of experiences to be had with Mr Benn in Waterloo, including a chance to step through the magical changing room door itself. Once on the other side, visitors went on a jungle adventure where they got to take a selfie with Gus the Gorilla. One Londoner, who had been in with his friends, said it was “terrifying but we enjoyed it and we came out stronger”. A Twitter user posted a picture of the Mr Benn keyring she won with the words “day made”. Outside of the changing room, visitors could spin a wheel inspired by the original Mr Benn opening sequence and potentially win some cool prizes. People also got the chance to win a real-life gorilla tracking adventure in Uganda by entering our competition.
What’s next?
After Mr Benn’s magical adventure in London, he will be travelling up north to entertain shoppers in Manchester. He will be in the Arndale Centre with his friends from the 23rd to 24th September. Look out for him there!
