Any golfer knows the different types of golf club, and understands their role on the fairway. They all have their place – some are powerful, some more versatile, and others help you out of a tough spot. At The Insurance Emporium, we love teeing up for a round of golf. With the majors season in full swing, it got us thinking about the different kinds of club and the personalities that come with them! What kind of golf club are you? Let us know in our poll below!
Woods
Woods are powerful, focused, and want to get the job done as efficiently as possible. With the largest heads, woods are swung the fastest and cover the largest distance, but lack nuance and can sometimes miss the mark! Mike Austin holds the world record for the longest drive from 1947, when he shot the ball 515 yards – a whole 65 yards past the flag!
Irons
Slightly less powerful than the woods, irons are a little more controlled and nuanced, and much more versatile. An iron prefers to plan the course to their goals more strategically, and can be more reliable in the long run. They’ll fit in with almost any group, and are a great team player!
Hybrids
The new kid on the block with all the latest gear. Traditionalists may look down on these newbies and prefer the standard wood and iron line-up, but plenty of people end up opting for the compromise of a hybrid. A great all-rounder, hybrids enjoy many of the best elements of woods and irons, and can be a solid member of any team, keeping you on track when the going gets rough.
Wedges
Wedges can be great for getting out of a tricky situation. Often sitting on the side lines, a wedge is usually quiet and observant, but makes for a reliable partner and a real team player in those tough times when you’ve gone off course, and you’re trying to get back on the straight and narrow.
Putter
The ice cold killer of the group! The putter doesn’t bask in the limelight like the woods, isn’t as flash as the irons, and can be difficult to get to grips with. They’ll never land you that hole in one, but if you keep setting them up, the putter will keep knocking them down cleanly and consistently.
