Why Insure Your Caravan With Us
Read The Not Small Print
We dislike jargon and we like to be upfront and clear with customers, but occasionally there are words that we need to use so we've put them in this helpful box of not small print!
You may store your caravan in the following places:
- On Tow – attached to a towing vehicle but not continually supervised.
- On Holiday – detached from a towing vehicle and in 24-hour recreational use.
- Seasonal Pitch – designated and reserved area on a registered caravan park where your caravan is sited for an extended period, typically a season or several months.
- Note: “registered” caravan park is one with a site licence issued by the local authority and containing 10 caravans or more.
- Note: you may stay in your caravan for periods of up to 28 days, then you must vacate it for not less than 48 hours.
- Store and Stay – sited on a designated pitch booked for your holiday period and placed into storage within 24 hours of your departure.
- Residential Property – within boundaries of permanent, non-commercial address as defined in the title deeds.
- Compound (not CaSSOA) - securely locked area surrounded by a man-made structure made of posts of timber, concrete or metal connected by wire netting, rails, or boards.
- CaSSOA Compound – any security compound with CaSSOA Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum Award for security.
If you are insuring your caravan for £35,000 or more, we will require you to have a manufacturer-fitted alarm and tracker fitted to your caravan. The tracker must be either an S5 or S7 Thatcham approved tracker. Please see our Security Requirements for more details.
Save up to 45% on new policies with our additional discounts, with plenty of ways to reach the maximum saving. Discounts available for Caravan Club membership (15%), storage at CaSSOA Bronze (5%), Silver (10%), Gold (15%) or Platinum (20%) sites, alarm (15%), tracker (5%), electronic anti-snaking device (10%), wheel safety bands (5%), Electronic Security Identification System (10%), HGV licence (5%), advanced driving qualifications (5%), drivers aged over 30 (20%) and 3 years or more no claim history with a previous caravan insurer (10%).
This is based on a touring caravan insured for £1,000 on the Essential level of cover with no Optional Benefits selected.
The average premium our customers paid in 2023 was £14.84 per Lunar Month, with an average £14,671 sum insured.
The premium can be paid in single annual payments or by 12 monthly instalments.
What does touring caravan insurance excess mean?
An excess is the part you pay towards a claim.
How does touring caravan insurance excess work?
With our touring caravan insurance policies, there are only two Standard Benefits where you need to pay an excess:
- Theft, Loss or Accidental Damage
- Public Liability (Standard)
For example, if you are on holiday in your touring caravan and you accidentally damage the side of it while reversing it into a tight space, we will deduct the fixed accidental damage excess off the money we pay you.
There is no additional excess payable for claims under the following Standard Benefits:
- New for Old (Standard)
- European Cover (Standard)
There is no excess payable for claims under the following Standard Benefits:
- Recovery & Delivery (UK only and not available on the Essential cover level)
- Alternative Accommodation & Replacement Hire (Not available on the Essential cover level)
- Keys & Locks (Only available on the Super cover level)

Will you cover my caravan if it is stored on a working farm?
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer cover at these locations as working farms are accessed regularly throughout the day increasing the risk of damage or theft to your caravan.
Do I receive any additional discount for having extra security in place?
Yes, we offer the following additional discounts:
- CaSSOA rated sites up to 20%
- Electronic anti-snaking device - 10%
- Wheel safety bands - 5%
- Alarm - 15%
- Electronic security identification system - 10%
- Approved locator (Tracker) - 5%
The maximum discount per policy is 45%.
Do you offer 'New for Old' cover?
Dependent on the cover level chosen we offer 'New for Old' cover anywhere from 4 years up to 10 years from the date of manufacture.
What are security requirements on the touring caravan policy?

What additional equipment can I insure?
We will insure any non-standard fixtures, fittings and accessories added since manufacture including: air conditioning units, aerials, batteries, caravan motor movers, fire extinguishers, gas bottles, generators, refrigerators, satellite dishes, security devices, solar panels, stabilisers, water carriers, winter wheels and any other ancillary equipment related to the use of your caravan.
What additional content can I insure?
We will insure household goods and personal belongings you, or a member of your family, own that are in your caravan. Please refer to our policy wording and the question below for items we do not insure.
What additional content can I not insure?
Any items used solely or partly for business, profession or trade purposes and articles made from precious metals, bicycles, binoculars, books, business tools, cameras, car accessories, cash, cheques, credit cards or the like, clocks, collections of any kind, computers and ancillary or associated equipment, documents, fishing equipment, furs, gaming consoles, gemstones, gold, golfing equipment, guns and any other associated equipment, hearing aids, instruments, jewellery, mobile phones, Motability scooters, personal media including CDs, DVDs and MP3s, photographic or audio-visual equipment and accessories, pictures or works of art, securities, silver, software, spectacles or contact lenses, sports equipment, watches or watercraft.
What age will you insure my touring, trailer tent or folding caravan up to?
Up to the age of 25 years from the date of manufacture.
Will you insure my caravan if I let a friend use it?
We offer cover for up to 2 friends to use the caravan in the UK for social, domestic and pleasure purposes as long as they are over 25 years old.
What should I do with damaged parts and belongings?
Please don’t dispose of any items without our permission. Our Claims Team may require these items as part of the claims substantiation process.
Can I keep my caravan permanently sited?
Yes, providing that:
- The security requirements are met, and
- The caravan is not used as a permanent residence, and
- The caravan site is a registered caravan park, and
- There are a minimum of 10 caravans on the caravan park.
Are there any towing vehicle limitations?
Every towing vehicle has a maximum weight it is legally and safely able to tow. This information can usually be found in the vehicle handbook, manufacturer’s specification, or on the V5 document.
When towing a touring caravan, you must ensure your vehicle is suitable for the combined weight involved. This includes:
- The Unladen Weight of the caravan
- The weight of any equipment and personal belongings carried
- The caravan’s MTPLM (Maximum Technically Permissible Laden Mass)
Your towing vehicle must be capable of towing the caravan at its maximum potential weight. It is essential that the caravan is not overloaded and that it is towed by a vehicle with sufficient towing capacity, as using an unsuitable vehicle or exceeding weight limits can be unsafe and may be illegal.
Are there any touring caravans you do not insure?
We do not offer cover for the following makes of touring caravans:
- Hobby Caravans
- Knaus Caravans
- Tabbert Caravans
or any caravan that is not built to UK specifications.
What are Optional Benefits and do they apply to my caravan insurance?
Optional Benefits are sections of cover that you can select if you wish to.
Optional Benefits applicable to caravan insurance are:
