This is based on a student living in a Halls of Residence with up to £2,000 of contents with no Optional Benefits selected.
The average premium our customers paid in 2023 was £5.71 per Lunar Month, with an average £2,487 sum insured.
A lunar monthly policy runs in periods of 28 days. This type of policy renews each 28 days upon receipt of appropriate premium.
Who can apply for student insurance cover?
Full-time students studying at college or university in the UK.
Can I arrange my student insurance cover in advance?
Yes, cover can be arranged up to 90 days in advance.
Can you cover other persons on this policy?
No, we can only cover the named individual in the policy schedule.
Do I need to fit locks to my room?
Yes, full details are provided within our student insurance Security Requirements within our policy wording.
Why do I need student insurance?
The household insurance of your parent(s)/guardian(s) does not always cover your possessions whilst living in halls of residence or privately rented student accommodation; therefore you may want to have cover in place.
Do I need to keep my purchase receipts for the items I am insuring?
Yes, in the event of a claim we will require the original purchase receipt(s) and any other documentation required to prove ownership.
Can I insure my bicycle on your policy?
Yes, if you select our Optional Benefit 'Bicycle' it would be covered for up to £1,000.
Can I insure my musical equipment on your policy?
Yes, if you select our Optional Benefit 'Musical Instruments' it would be covered for up to £2,500.
What is the difference between Contents, Personal Belongings and Valuables?
Contents are household goods owned by the student or their family for use in the student accommodation: appliances, furnishings, furniture.
Personal Belongings are items that a student normally wears or carries in everday life.
Valuables are valuable articles or personal property: audio equipment including headphones, binoculars, books, desktop computer, DVD/Blu-ray/video players and recorders, digital and satellite receivers, furs, gaming consoles, gemstones, gold, jewellery, prams and pushchairs, sports equipment, tools (DIY), televisions, telescopes, watches or wheelchairs.
What items are included in the Gadget and Mobile Phone section of cover?
Gadgets include camera lenses, digital camera/camcorders, eReaders, laptops, mobile phones, portable audio players, Satnav and GPS, wearables (smart watches and fitness trackers) and tablets.
Is there an age limit for gadgets and mobile phones?
Yes, we do not insure gadgets or mobile phones that are more than 3 years old when the insurance policy starts.
Are there any limitations on how many gadget or mobile phone claims that can be made?
Yes, the policy limit is a maximum 2 gadget claims every 365 days and 1 mobile Phone claim every 365 days.
Are there any limitations on the maximum value individual items can be insured for?
Yes, this varies under the different sections of cover. The single item limits are as follows; 'Contents' - £750, 'Gadgets & Mobile Phones' - camera lenses £1,000, digital camera/camcorder £1,500, eReaders £250, laptops £2,000, mobile phones £750, portable audio player £1,000, satnav & GPS £500, Wearables £400, Tablet £750, 'Personal Belongings - £500, 'Valuables' - £1,500, 'Bicycle' - £1,000.
Are there any items your policy does not cover?
Yes, we do not cover the following items: postal or money orders, gift vouchers and current postage stamps that are not part of a stamp collection, saving certificates, premium bonds or saving stamps, luncheon vouchers, trading stamps, telephone cards, current travel or other tickets with a fixed monetary value, securities, promotional vouchers, lottery and raffle tickets or Air Miles vouchers.
In what circumstances can a claim be made for tuition fees?
If you have selected our Optional Benefit 'Tuition Fees, Rent Protections, Exams & Coursework' this would cover for any unused tuition fees and/or rent if the policyholder becomes incapacitated, dies or a member of their immediate family who provides financial support is made redundant, dies or sustains an injury or illness and the policyholder must cancel or withdraw from their course. This section would also cover the cost of resitting exams or reproducing coursework if the policyholder becomes incapacitated or a member of their immediate family dies or sustains an injury or illness.
