How do your pet policies work?
Because we want you to have the flexibility that really suits your lifestyle, we offer five different policy types. Take a look at our handy flowchart to find out exactly how our policy types can benefit you.
Does the policy cover physiotherapy for my senior cat?
Yes, if you have selected a policy that includes veterinary fees. Acupuncture, homeopathic or herbal medicines, hydrotherapy, laser treatment, physiotherapy and ultrasound are included for the treatment of a condition covered by your policy, if recommended by your vet. Limitations apply for hydrotherapy, please see the policy wording.
Does the policy cover prescription diet?
The veterinary fees section on the Time Limited, Maximum Benefit and Lifetime policies includes cover for prescription diet for the treatment to dissolve bladder stones or crystals in urine only. Limitations apply, please see the policy wording.
If my senior cat is not vaccinated can I still arrange cover?
Yes, although unvaccinated senior cats are not covered for Feline Infectious Enteritis, Feline Leukaemia and Cat Flu. In addition any treatment required for an illness that may have been prevented with a routine vaccination will be excluded (unless the vaccine failed).
Are there any treatments I am unable to claim for?
We will not pay for preventative, cosmetic, routine treatments as well as claims for any behavioural problems.
Am I able to claim for any dental treatment for my senior cat within this policy?
Routine treatment such as scaling, polishing teeth and the removal of deciduous teeth are not covered nor are claims in respect of tooth or gum disease. However we would consider claims due to injury.
Would the policy cover if my cat has an accident a few days after buying the policy?
If you purchase the Lifetime Copper, Zinc, Titanium or Palladium policies, and your cat has an accident 48 hours after your policy starts, you can claim for vet’s fees, but any accidents in the first 48 hours are excluded. We do not cover any problem affecting the cruciate ligaments within 14 days of your policy starting. This includes any arthritis, illness or injury that develops from them.
Would the policy cover if my cat fell ill a few days after buying the policy?
No, the policy excludes any illness displaying clinical signs within 14 days of the policy commencing. Please refer to the policy wording for details of all exclusions.
Are all breeds of senior cat covered by the policy?
Currently we insure all breeds of domestic cats but any application is subject to underwriting approval.
Can I insure a moggie?
Yes. Simply select moggie when going through the quote process?
What help will my policy offer if my senior cat is lost?
As part of your policy, we offer cover for advertising and reward to help with the cost of getting your cat back. If your cat is not found within 28 days of straying or being stolen from your address we will pay the price paid for the cat, less 50%, for a pet aged 6 years or more. For neutered cats up to the age of 6 years, we will pay the price of the cat, less 25%. If you are unable to prove a purchase receipt, you will receive a payment of £40.
If my senior cat has a condition which needs ongoing treatment, do I need to wait until the treatment has finished before I can make my claim?
No you do not have to wait, claims should be submitted as soon as the senior cat receives treatment.
My senior cat has suffered medical problems in the past, are you still able to offer me cover?
Yes, we can still insure your cat but you are obliged to inform us of any previous medical conditions your cat has suffered from in the past. We do not cover conditions that first showed clinical signs, happened or existed before the commencement date/time shown on your policy schedule. We do not cover illness or conditions that first showed clinical signs, happened or existed within the first 14 days of the policy inception. For Lifetime Copper, Zinc, Titanium and Palladium policies please note that we also do not cover any injuries displaying clinical signs within 48 hours of the policy inception, and do not cover any problem affecting the cruciate ligaments within 14 days of the policy inception. This includes any arthritis, illness or injury that develops from them. All applications are subject to approval.
What should I do if my senior cat is referred on to a specialist?
Please submit an additional claim form and invoices from the specialist.
Do you cover hereditary conditions?
Yes, as long as the condition doesn't first show clinical signs, happened or existed at the commencement date/time shown on your policy schedule or within the first 14 days of the policy inception.
Do you cover congenital conditions?
Yes, as long as the condition doesn't first show clinical signs, happens or exists at the commencement date/time shown on your policy schedule or within the first 14 days of the policy inception.

I'm thinking about taking out more than one pet policy with The Insurance Emporium, will you give me a discount?
Yes, we offer a 10% discount on each subsequent pet policy you take out with us. Total maximum discount is 30%. There is no maximum number of pets that you can insure; multi-pet discounts apply to dogs or cats or a combination of both.
What amount will I have to pay as an excess?
There is no excess except on Vet's Fees (Calculated by policy type, breed, age and cover level).
